Health Regulations & Medication

State regulations require that all children have a completed State Health form which includes their immunization record and medical consent. This form must be on file before the students enter school. It is imperative that these records be maintained and up-to-date.

No prescription medication, topical or non-prescriptive medication such as, but not limited to, aspirin, Tylenol, hydrocortisone, cough medicine, or nose drops, may be given to a student except under the following conditions:

1.   A PRESCRIPTION DRUG AUTHORIZATION form must be completed, dated, and signed by the physician and parents.

2.   Non-prescription medication requires a DRUG AUTHORIZATION form be completed and signed by the parent.

3.   All medication (prescription and over the counter) must be in the original container and labeled with the student’s name, name of drug, dosage, and directions for administering, date, and (in the case of prescription medication) physician’s name. Medications are only to be stored in the office in a designated area.

4. A written report including type of medicine given, dosage, time, date, and the name of the person administering the medication will be kept in the school’s Medical Log Book.

If your child is diagnosed with a communicable illness (such as strep or a flu virus), please notify the school office immediately. The school will then take the necessary precautions to protect all students.

Please check BHA's  2020-21 Reopening Plan for COVID-19 modifications to this section.

Fever/Illness
Thermometers are kept in the school office and in each classroom. In the case of a student with a fever of over 100 degrees or displaying symptoms of illness (diarrhea, vomiting or visible discomfort), the office will make every attempt to contact parents and/or emergency contact designee. Children must be picked up immediately in the case of illness, and should not return to school until they have been symptom free for a 24-hour period.

Injury & Emergencies
Unfortunately accidents do happen. While we take the utmost precaution when it comes to the safety of students, should such a situation arise, it will be assessed by an administrator. In emergency situations 911 will be called immediately; other situations will be assessed and parents and/or emergency designees will be contacted to pick up the student as needed for further treatment. If the injury is such that the student can continue the day without major discomfort (i.e. with a bandage or ice-pack) the student will be encouraged to remain at school. Parents may be contacted as a courtesy and for further direction. In all cases of injury, the school will fill out an Accident Report and record the incident in the Medical Log Book kept in the office.

Head Lice
Lice checks will be performed at the beginning of the school year, after lengthy vacations, and when the school deems necessary. Any child found to have lice must be taken home immediately. Children will be allowed back to school only when they are free of all nits. Children must be checked and cleared by a school representative before gaining admittance.

Allergies
Parents must notify Bader Hillel Academy of all food allergies and sensitivities. Records of these will be kept on file in the school office, as well as, any necessary medication and emergency procedures/precautions. For more on allergies, please click here .
